A self-described "nerd for all seasons," Effie has a long and varied career with an emphasis on
philanthropy and community service.  She received the Call To Service Presidential Volunteer
Service Award for her 17,000+ hours and over 30 years of volunteerism during her life-time. 
President Bush and the Points of Light Foundation appointed Ms. Horning as a
Daily Point of Light in 2007.  Although this award is given to many groups, Effie was recognized for her contributions as an individual.

A pro-active member of the community, she strives to formulate and implement resolutions to issues.  She is currently the Chairman of the Clinical Practice Council at Tri City Medical Center.  Always finding ways to promote service, she created the Spirit of Excellence and Spirit of H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People is Empowering) Awards. 

Effie has held several Pageant Titles including Ms. World.  She uses titles to further her philanthropic endeavors.  Her Queen's Team/ Crowns for the Cure, was created to promote community service in the world community.  Although created for pageant title holders, the Team is composed of many "lay" persons, men, women and children. 

Effie has performed Raks Sharki for international dignitaries and heads of state, she is known as "Sanura" in the entertainment field.  Among her favorite performing opportunities is "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve."

Her personal history includes conquering many challenges.  With Medical and Psychiatric licences and certifications in multiple medical specialties, this Resource Specialist is a mentor within the hospital and lay communities.   She was instrumental in making The Gail Model, a free resource to the public.  This is an advanced screening tool for breast cancer, and was previously only accessable by the medical community.  Her goal is to fulfill her platform statement "beyond surviving...THRIVING!" and encourage all persons "be yourself, live your dreams, dare to be."

Effie's award winning art and baking have generated interest in the celebrity communities.  Her Design's by "F" have been invited into the S.W.A.G. (Stuff We All Get) of many high-profile Hollywood events.  Having created "Survivor SWAG" for events such as the City of Hope Walk for Hope, she maintains her resolution to serve the community "by recognizing our unsung hero's...those who have have faced or continue to face the challenges of cancer."
